Breast Cancer Ribbon

If you see pink ribbons or bows, you probably know by now that they are advertising or providing information about breast cancer. These pink ribbons are as varied as the imagination and come up with ideas.

Some of the first pink ribbons started as jewelry. There were lovely pink bows in the form of pins and earrings. They were dainty and very pretty. These jewelry pieces quickly became popular among breast cancer victims and those women who wanted to spread awareness about the disease. Most women began to spread the word about the jewelry until you could barely find anyone with some pink ribbons in their jewelry boxes.

Next came sleepwear and t shirts. The designs were very feminine and attractive. All had variations of the ribbons which were immediately recognizable. Keeping breast cancer awareness in the forefront was so simple. When women recognized the pink ribbon, they were reminded of the advice by the American Cancer Society. They instantly remembered that mammogram they had forgotten or tried to forget. They remembered that they should be doing self-exams. Just by seeing a pink bow, many women made the effort to save their lives.

One really nice side part of the pink ribbon craze is that part of the money for each item sold goes to charities that provide women with necessary education and help after diagnosis. It is a win-win situation. You have lovely shirts, jewelry, and cute nightgowns and you are also donating money to breast cancer charities.

For women who have beaten cancer love to wear the pink ribbon accessories as badges of honor. They are the survivors who can give other women hope. How many women have been helped by the Breast Cancer Ribbons will probably never be known but the campaign has been going on for a long time. It must be working.

I know that different color ribbons are very popular in Hollywood but the Breast Cancer Ribbons are a grass route campaign. Certainly, starts do wear them or the accessories, but common everyday women are also walking billboards for early detection of this killer of women.

Many people wonder why the color pink was chosen. That is easy; it’s a soothing color that has been a symbol of woman since the first seamstresses started making clothing out of cloth. Pink for girls and blue for boys. Besides ladies love pink and it goes with most everything.

If you haven’t bought anything from the extensive Breast Cancer Ribbon Campaign, there is still time. If you can’t find them in the stores, go online. Start helping now. Remind you and your friends that Breast Cancer is serious and women must take action immediately to prevent this often deadly disease.
